For most golfers slicing the golf ball on the course is typically a frustrating, embarrassing, and uncontrollable act. Most players will stand there helplessly as they watch their ball make its way toward the rough.
Slicing the golf ball is probably the number one mistake made by golfers, don't worry plenty of golfers who have wandered the course before you can share in your pain. Slicing will occur when the body is not properly aligned with itself and the golf ball. Because it is necessary to fix both factors in order to repair the slice, this can be an extremely frustrating period in a golfer's life.
For starters, you should examine your stance. The process of fixing a slice requires focus and awareness on the body. You should align your shoulders, and feet so that they line up parallel to one another, this goes for the ball to pin line as well. While you are in your stance make sure that your chest is aligned as well, forming a nice straight line facing the golf ball.
A slice occurs by turning the body toward the left, and then curving back around to the right while the club is in the air. Physics states that the golf ball will only travel in a curved direction when it has been hit in very specific areas of the ball. The golf ball prefers to travel in a straight line and that is what it was designed to do. It is because of this knowledge that we know that it is our bodies position that is creating the deviance in direction. Upon impact you are hitting the golf ball from the outside to the inside, and in effect causing the ball to spin thru the air.
Improper body alignment leads to an improper rotation when taking the golf swing. Miss-aligning with the golf ball when a golfer connects with the golf ball will cause it fly off in different directions. The slice will occur when a golfer's body is positioned to create an aim that is too far to the left.
Once you have adjusted your stance, take note of your grip. in-experienced golfers will tend to grip the club either too hard or too loosely. A firm grip on the golf club is important, but remember that your not trying to choke the club. Some golfers allow their grip to twist the club slightly during their swing, and this can cause the slice. Fixing the slice might require you to observe the intensity with which you hold the club, as well as what the club does when it is in mid swing.
A golfers stance in relation to the ball might be contributing to the slice. Some golfer's bodies hang to far forward, this tends to be much more common than too far back, if this is the case this will cause the body to produce a slight shift during the swing, and once again thwart the efforts to fix the slice. A firm, middle of the road stance where the feet are firmly planted on the ground, with an even shift in body weight during the swing is recommended to send the ball straighter and farther.
